I wouldn't be very concerned if I didn't have asthma. I get the flu shot every year because getting the annual run of the mill flu could kill me. It has been very effective, but there ain't no shot for this one and it is resistant to one of the 3 anti-viral drugs used for flu.

The first "probable" outbreak of swine flu here in Suffolk is a 10 year old girl who attended a track meet in Astoria. Luckily, she lives in my town. Yay for me, I'm boarding up the windows!

im not scared for my self... but im for my daugthers... 2.5 years old and 8 months.... ill die if something were to happen to them...

This is being way over hyped by the media. Its a new strain and how many people die in a year from the normal flu that we have. I forget the number but its thousands. Im not the least bit worried nor have i changed anything in my normal routines of day to day.

In US, the average is 35,000 seasonal flu related death.

There are many differences in this one though. It is more dangerous than SARRS and H5N1 (which are VERY much hyped up by the media than the early days of this outbreak)as it has 3 genetic traits from flu of different animals. What does this mean? It means, the mutations could be quite unpredictable. If they do mutate, it could mean infections could take new vehicles other than just human beings to human beings. The REAL danger of any virus is, not what they are presently, that they may mutate. The uncertainty of what it mutates to is what concerns the WHO. Another aspect that is quite different from the much feared H5N1 and the very infectious SARRS is that the speed of this spread is alarming. If you look at this H1N1 spreading map and timeline, it is a terrible nightmare. Many of the known cases are people who travelled to Mexico but they don't necessarily stay in the same hotel, same resturant, kiss the same person. That indicates there is a large number of people in Mexico City are already infected and the diease is VERY infectious in ways that we don't even know. The next uncertainty that worries ALL the experts is, why the death rate in Mexico is so high while American ones are only showing mild illness. Most health officials are asking, "What actually killed the people in Mexico-really the H1N1 along or H1N1 plus something else that we don't know?"

BTW, according to the health experts, US is currently capable of manufacturing medicine to treat the diease at current speed but they also say nobody knows what will happen if the diease mutates.

well what i do know is that this sounds like the end of times kind of stuff... (no joke) just like the black plague... pray and ask for forginess just in case there is a higher power... use anti bacterial soap like purell like suggested earlier... we dont tneed this crap to be spreading...
