i actually think that global warming was a scam.... a buddy of mine works on a cruise ship and they have to recalibrate the compass a few clicks every year i think it is more like the poles are shifting than actual global warming just my opinion
There is talk of a major pole shift in the future. I cannot remember the specifics but it is a theory having to do with the alignment of the planets on a future date. As for global warming, it is happening. Al Gore must have stopped to invent the internet again, lol. But these low temps are great for our reef tanks, my inwall tank has not reached above 79 so far.
i believe u r refering to the polarity reversal(i.e.north pole becomes south pole). this is due to the mangnetic (inner & outer)core of the earth. this reversal has happened quite a few times since the creation of earth. the last 1 was 790,000 years ago. so it is estimate that we could be due for another. its detected that evidence of this has already happened on a portion of the atlantic ocean(between south america & africa)i.e.-the area has a much weaker magnitic field so its expose to solar radiation. when this happen earth will be expose to the solar rays from the sun for 1 to 28 thousand years. this can kill off almost all forms of life on earth.
all this is base on scientic theory, since no one has live the last reversal before.
a theroy is an action or belief that hasn't happen..... but ask any person that flies a plane or sails a ship the comps are always being recalibrated most times only by a click or two.... and basically the occurance you are talking about is called 2012 were the myan's and chinese calender ends which is a total disaster for earth..... but if you look back in history the only place on earth that has never been affected in any of its stages is the coral triangle that is were life surpose have started as afar as man has documented that has the deepest history of life
it depends on how you define global warming-NYC is not bigger than the earth.
Many scientists have already switch the words to "weather change" to better describe the situation so that the public will not be confused nor certain groups can take the phrase out of the context.
As far as the last couple satelite pics I saw, the north ice plate(caps) has shrunk immensely and some weather guys are saying that the melting ice, colder currents and air are drifting down to us. In fact, most reports say the oceans will be cooler (not warmer) than before due to the so call "global warming." True or not-I have no idea unless I work in a weather station.
It feels like a rainy season for sure. I think it drown most of my seeds.:irked: (this is my thoery to hide my poor husbandry) Only my onions are growing but got mowed down by the gardener three times:irked::irked::irked:
The polar shift isn't a theory. It's a fact based on evidence found in ancient bedrock at the bottom of the atlantic. As you go through the layers of rock the crystal formations flip flop from north to south indicating a shirft in magnetism, since crystals tend to align themselves with magnetic north. So, this is not a "what if" scenario as much as it's a "when is it going to happen again?". Magnetic north as of right now is about 5 or 6 degrees off from true north. If you were to shoot an azimuth with a compass you would need to adjust for the shift or find yourself completely off course.
The reason for this shift is that scientists believe the earth's core happens to look a lot like a lava lamp. Masses of various metals and elements in liquid magma form stay together due to differing densities and so as the theory goes, a mass of molten iron or other magnetic metals makes it's rounds in there and currently is in the process of shifting from the "north" side to the "south". The change supposedly, is quick and violent in geological terms.
I don't think the polar shift has that much of an effect on global warming, it will however change the location of the northern lights, saving us travel money $$$$$.
Jared I just meant that the continental drift theory (which is what it was called a long time ago in 7th grade biology) has been around for a while. I didn't say that it was incorrect, as a matter of fact I see it as very true. Anyone remember Pangaea?
