I work similiar hours to you and I have a boxer (nice dog MR X :)). Boxers are high energy dogs so I take her out every morning (weather permitting) for a hour (6am-7am) to play at a local field. I leave her home alone from 8am-6pm. She has free roam of the house but I do feel guilty every morning when I leave for work. If I had to do it again, I would not get a dog until I'm retired.

If the dog is house trained stay away from the wee pads.

Sorry to hear the dog got adopted, but look on the bright side the dog is in a new home and out of the shelter.
I think if you are ready for a dog you will easily find the dog of your dreams and it will be the best thing you ever did.
I can honestly say my dogs have simply been amazing and are a part of my life I could never be without!

Just remember that every day a large amount of dogs and cats are euthanized in the city shelters simply because nobody wants them so if you are ready I would recommend taking a trip to one of those shelters. North Hempstead Animal Shelter is very close to NSAL and they will kill the animals if they dont get a home so check that one out!

Dont forget if you want a energetic pittie my dog Sake I am fostering needs a home but that is not a good dog for a first time dog owner.

Either way best luck and hope we all gave you some helpful info

Yea I am definitely glad the dog got a home. I am actually happy I didn't get it yet. I want to renovate my attic so it can just be an empty livable space... it's about 700 sq feet.

I know I'm picky but I really just want a Corgi/Daschund/Lab Retreiver definitely preference toward the smaller side... my place ain't big at all lol.

Once I do that I feel like I can just have the dog have that be his home and place to play freely if we can't go out or something...

you know when you adopt a dog, "most" adoption agency calls to see if the dog has been supervised, most place take back the dog if they catch that no one is home, thats why most families end up purchasing a dog.

that is news to me. "If they catch no one is home"? So does this mean you need to be with the dog 24/7?
Not sure what adoption agencies you have dealt with but I am involved and part of one that simply does home and reference checks.

Pretty sure that is not why most families end up buying a dog

I have never purchased a dog from a store. I have only adopted and fostered animals and with all the agencies I have dealt with in the tri-state NOT once have they dropped in on me unannounced or removed the animal from my home simply because I was not there 24/7. As Dr. Cooper stated they mostly ask for references.

Some will do home inspections and home interviews BUT they have always called ahead to schedule an appointment.

BTW, I currently own a shih-tzu/lhasa apso mixed dog that I adopted from North Shore Animal League. When he was much younger he was alone in my apartment for more than 8 hours because I had school and work and was completely fine. I gave him plenty of toys to entertain himself with and limited the amount of water. I hope you find what you are looking for and rescue one because they are the most wonderful additions to anybody's life. I cannot imagine mine without Mr. Pooh-Bear :)
