dogs are amazing

my lab hailey is the sweetest dog there is.she loves kids and people in general.she lets my kids and every kid that comes to the house climb on her and wrestle with her just the greatest dog. this amazes me,when i take her to the vet she will let the nurses touch her and weigh her take her temp the BAD WAY.but once she see the vet no matter which 1 it is she growls and snaps.just the sight of them they dont even have to touch her and the teeth are showing.maybe topshottadog can explain this and tell me if this happens alot to him..some 6th sense

My dog does the same thing. I think they remember traumatic experiences like being spade/neutered and correlate that with the vet.

yea well hey if someone cut my balls off I'd be pretty upset the next time I saw them too! LOL It's probably the same kind of thing like how people hate doctor's and dentists it's a violation thing. A stranger touching you in an odd way. I don't think there is anything you can do about it. Kind of like how no one gets excited about a prostate exam..I don't think anyone wakes up like "YES! a stranger gets to shove their hand up my arse today!"

my dogs are fine at the vet. i guess it's just the obvious- if they get no good feelings there, and only surgeries and shots and such, i can't say that i blame them for not being overjoyed.

anyone have an intact male? our boerboel is not fixed yet, and he must smell a female in heat in the neighborhood. he's freaking out for the last 5 days or so, whining all day and pacing and torturing our fixed female. she's bitten him countless times in the last 5 days defending her honor..lol..
any tips besides fixing him (he's still not fully grown yet)?

I don't know of any other means. And I have to tell you even then it doesn't stop it completely. My wife had our sheperd fixed when some mutt found her in the middle of the forest we live in. We kept the biggest (and dumbest) male and had him fixed. He would still try to "get it on" in the spring. A really weird scene when you know all the facts.
