I think it is an ok move we are diff going to miss damon. But i think they are going to go after carl crawford next year so they only wanted one year deal. Also think cashman got mad at boras. But i think we will be ok. He has a good glove and can hit and not to much power but gets on. Also can steal a few. I rather johnny but if we do get carl crawford that be great.

Even though Damon had a career year for HR's, it came at a price. He also struck out 100 times. Also a career high. That's a lot for somebody hitting in the 2 hole. Granderson, and Winn may not be better in that department, but both are WAY more athletic than Damon's been for the last two years. One of the tings everybody's become more aware of is that your pitching gets better with a good defense. Face it, Damon still throws like a girl. Lastly, everybody else may not think so, but I think Cashman figures he can do OK without Damon, so this would be a fine opportunity to stick it to Boras. Winn's definitely a rental. You'll definitely see Crawford in pinstripes next year. Yet another reason why they didn't want to give Damon 2 years at ANY price.

Money talks.
-Boras wanted Damon to get $5+ million. Yankees are actually sticking to their budget this year and they only had $2 million left.
-They need a RIGHT handed bat to platoon with Brett Gardner. Winn was cheap veteran who is a decent option at batting 9th. Gardner/Winn is a good 50+ Stolen bases and i would love to say .270-.280 bat avg and maybe 15 homeruns. That's not bad from the 9th bat.
-Granderson takes Damon's production and MORE.

Overall, Boras screwed Damon. Sometimes players have to realize Agents work for YOU not the other way around. With Damon's age and market value, he should be taking lesser pay for possible championships.

There is obviously a reason Yankees are sticking to their budget this year, the free agent market sucked. Smart move.

cash got mad at boras for sure. but by boars screwing around. it cost damon. and poor damon who followed him. its his own fault. i would have loved to have damon back. but not on boras terms. watch- he will be paid less then 7 mil a year like the yankees initial offer. next year there are a lot of free agents who has better arms. winn will stay at the bottom of the lineup the same way melkey did. nick johnson will be batting #2 and will have a better on base percentage for tex. the only way the yankees get screwed in all of this is when someone gets injured. i personally dont like granderson. he sux against lefties and strikesout way too much. people mistake home runs for on base percentages

Damon has a baby arm and has bad knees. Not too sad to see him go even though he is a nice guy and did have a solid year and a good post season. I guess we will see.

I know I am not privy to inside details but I don't understand this move. Johnny is past his prime and a butcher in the field but Winn is Brett Gardner in 12 years without any of Gardner's upside. Guess they picked a different placeholder until Crawford is patrolling CF next year.

personally i've never like the signing of damon, there was a reason boston didn't resign him, cause he sucks. he was more hype coming out of kc than he ever lived up to be. don't get me wrong he's not a bad outfielder, but not worth the money he was making. i would have much rather the yankees have signed moises alou or brian giles for two years back in 05 and gave cabrera more experience eariler in his major league career.

as for winn, i'm indifferent right now, i'll judge after i see him play for a bit. inserting a player into the yankees lineup and stadium can change things. but for 2mi one year and the possibility of getting crawford next year it's hard to even be on the negative side of things right now. but i would have rather resigned hairston Jr. because of his ability to play almost every position on the field, esp if winn has a year similiar to hairston jr
