No, he doesn't ship, but I can give you lots of info. He gave me one for my birthday once. They have to be handled everyday. Mine ate kitten food. You keep them in pine bedding. ABSOLUTELY NO CEDAR BEDDING! When you change their bedding, sometimes they will self annoint themselves to smell like their surroundings. They will chew up a piece of the bedding, and froth at the mouth and spread the froth all over themselves to smell like their bedding. This is completely normal. They like to have at least an hour of run time outside of their cage everyday. I put mine in a puppy fence and let him do his thing. They make a weird noise when they are startled. Kind of a cross between a his and a sneeze and they hunch their back and stick their spines out. Just pick him up carefully when he does that. He will relax shortly. They like to lick everything. So be careful what you have out around the house when he is out. If there is anything else you want to know, just ask.
What a topic... I've always been interested in one myself, but felt that they might be hard to take care of. Sorry to highjack just want to keep an eye on this one.
Mine was super easy to take of. Cedar is poisonous to them and I kept mine in a clear plastic Rubbermaid container with holes cut in the lid big enough for me to stick my hands in and take him out. Make sure he has a little house that he can go in to sleep. I took a Tupperware bowl and cut out an opening and turned it upside down. That's where he slept.
When I volunteered at the Greenburgh Nature Center eons ago they used to have a pair...cute little things but those particular ones were very very shy.
I have two friends that HAD them. One of them ran off of a piece of furniture, fell, and died. It was very sad.
The other lived a decently long life. It died of an absent tooth.
I would reccomend looking thru a Hedgehog forum and reading up on the deseases and illnesses they can have. My firend told me that if he knew of this first, he probably would not have kept one... It's hard losing a pet like this after so many years.
Shipping on those are expensive. After seeing how much they cost to ship, that one in the pet shop for $200.00 is a steal. No wonder my brother doesn't ship his.
