So I finally got rid of them and just went back to Cablevision (lesser of 2 evils IMO), I got the 'boost' package with the quicker internet speeds ( NO less quick that Verizon was even with 3 or 4 computers running here at the same time) and that service includes the wireless router)

Like I said in my post, Fios and Cablevisions internet speed is the same respectively. When you get a higher package it increases the amount of traffic you can send over the line without dropping packets, not the actual line speed. Line speed is determined by distance to/from your ISP, quality of wiring, your network card, WIFI vs wired, and whatever.

The average person will never use more than a few mpbs. Anything more than 5mbps is simply unnecessary.

The computers are all over the house, mostly far from the router and I wasn't looking to tether them to lines again or have to go and buy another wireless router. This was the only package that included the wireless router.
This package worked out well for me :)

I?m very different than most, I have both services.

FIOS for the home phone, television and Internet Cablevision for the business phones which includes Internet; a little odd but cheaper as Verizon is almost triple for the business phones. I?ve been on FIOS since it became available, was Cable prior and DirecTV before that.

Cablevision had the worst HD, pixilation was just insane that I went with a roof antenna for HD before FIOS; free HD with Cable is false advertising as without paying for IO you can?t get it (small pet peeve). Telephone service hands down better than Verizon and a lot cheaper, the 2 business lines with Internet is cheaper than 1 business lie with Verizon. Internet speeds (and I have run them side by side) during the day pretty close, when the kids get home from school?.cable may as well be dial up and yes it gets that slow. When I bought the house I replaced all the wiring to CAT5e and RG6 so I knew the wiring was never an issue.

FIOS was fun to install, like many took the entire day but not an issue when you work from home. The bill took close to 6 months to get ironed out but I got 2 free months for the trouble. Hard to say about the HD channel lineup as of late but back then FIOS blew cable away and picture quality is still hands down better. The battery backup they install should last a few years, I?m on 6 without the replace battery warning and have my cell otherwise. The battery is only for the phone line anyway as the box outside shuts the TV and Internet when you pull the plug.

The last time someone asked me about the 2 I laughed and said the cable company has the better/cheaper phone service and the phone company has the better Internet and TV service.

If I were to cancel FIOS I doubt I?d replace it at all, to many free/cheaper choices on the Internet with Hulu and/or Netflix.

Not entirely true....Cablevision is a shared medium, when was the last time you used coax to wire a network, and is why the speeds slow down the more people use that shared line. FIOS is switched fiber to the house, so they do the rate limiting at the ONT (big white box outside).

The average person may be using a lot more than you think, especially those who stream video via Netflix and/or Hulu.
