Ahh J, my type of photography. The Ant on the green leaf came out pretty cool, i like it. Some of those flowers sure look funny, especially the second to last. I like the colors. Nice series.

What shutter did you use for the bigger ant? A faster shutter would have helped out.

Keep them coming :yo:

hey Pedro, the thing with the ants was they were moving faster than I could focus. Remember I was hand holding a 90mm macro lens racked out all the way. the depth of field was almost nothing!

so the main problem was trying to keep up with the ants. the only chance I had was if one stayed still for at least a few seconds.
In a super hot green house this game got old pretty quick :dead1:

I went back to shooting the orchids.
I don't know the names of the flowers, I did not write them down  but the Selby Garden is known for their collection of super rare orchids so what your looking at is some seldom seen stuff, at least that's what they told me.

Curious what Aperture where you trying to shoot it at? I normally go manual with flash if possible at a small aperture of at least f22 or higher. Shutter 160 and up, preferably 200. In daylight, that's easy to accomplish without having the flash overtake the subject.

I still like the ant/green flower. It makes me think of the movie Ants, lol. You should copyright them right on the pic!

J,

I see the problem right there. Look at the exposure. 1/60s and F5. First off to minimize shake you needed to be at least 1/90s since that's the length of the lens. And at F5 that's just too shallow. Next time go manual like i said with 1/200s or 1/160s and F22. Let the flash fill in the light. That will freeze the ant, and give you nice DOF to get alot of the ant in focus. If you need to bump the iso to 200. But if there's plenty of light leave it at 100. Now go shoot another ant and repost, i want to see the results.

sure I'm going to go out today and find some more ants.

I think i'll stick to things that don't move for now.
