Leather coral

Here is my leather coral.

His name is "Fluffy."

I have taken many many frags from this guy, paid for itself many times over.

First time I've heard of someone naming their coral. However, "Fluffy"
is very beautiful. How many inches across is he? He looks quite large
in the photo.

Nice Sarco, Laura! Mine is one of my favorite corals. Got him as a tiny 1/2" bud, and now he's probably 7" across.

Yes I just love leather corals. I have been having some kind of mystery problem with my sps (in another tank) and it really makes me appreciate how hardy and pretty leathers are.

This guy is about 14 inches across, he is huge.

Can you believe about 8 months before the pic was taken I had fragged it back severly? I took scissors and cut everything off the top around the stem, so the piece I had looked like a donut and the coral was just a stem with some polyps on top. It hardly noticed the assault and started fluffing out what polyps it had left within 20 minutes of being put back in the tank.

I have yet to frag mine, but it's getting to the point I need to trim. So... when you snipped all the way around the outside, did you cut the "donut" into smaller pieces? Then what, glue, rubber band...?

I need to do some serious fragging coming up- trade-ins to the LFS!!! Need a new brain. (Feel free to poke fun at that statement)

Yeah, I hacked up the donut piece and rubberbanded each one snugly (but not too tight) to a rock. Wait until you are really sure the coral is atached to remove the rubberband.

(and that's my refugium in the back, I saw the post and hoped no one thinks my tank looks like that!)

Thanks, Laura. I will have to give it a try soon. You know, I really need a frag grow-out tank. And a bigger tank, and a new refugium, and...and... :roll:
