Check out the "new DSLR" thread. If you want a true digital SLR for around a grand you're going to be pretty limited. If you want more of a "prosumer" camera (most of the features of a DSLR but without the versatility of changeable lenses) then your field opens wide up.

Well I have the fuji finepix602s right now but I realllly want the versatility of interchangable lenses.

What's your opinion of the canon 10d. That looks like a really nice camera for a beginner.

Thanks

I think it depends on how much of a 'beginner' you are. :D If you know your way around shutter speeds, F-stops, and such, just about any D-SLR is going to keep you happy for quite awhile. If you're moving up from a point-and-shoot, you might be overwhelmed by that much camera. ::shrug:: I guess it's just personal preference and how deep into photography you plan to get.

Me, I'm dumb--I knew I was really getting into photography, but I still worked my way up the ladder of point-and-shoot to high end consumer camera to prosumer DSLR and now I'm wishing I would have waited and just gotten a good true DSLR. But live and learn, I s'pose! :D

Ain't it the truth! Kinda like reefkeeping, eh Sharkky? First you buy the Prizm, then the Remora, then the Euroreef  PC >> VHO >> MH

When does the canon digital rebel come out? It's going to be under a grand isn't it? Pick up a used 28-80 lens and you're good to go!

It's already out. Something like $899 w/o lens and $999 with lens. I wish I could find someone to buy my minolta and I'd snatch one up. :) Only thing I don't like about it is that it takes a proprietary battery, and not regular old Ni-MH. :?

Yeah I was looking at the rebel. I did manage to talk my wife into spending a little more. So maybe I'll get the rebel and spend the rest on a lense or 2.

THanks

Man, by the time you can afford the camera you want, a new one comes out that you want instead. Sheesh.
