That's with the standard 18-55 EF-S lens that came in the 'kit' with the 300D. Not even set in macro mode (set it in macro and it tries to fire the flash too often for my tastes. :? ). This was set in shutter priority, then brightened slightly in PS. No color correction other than a very mild saturation boost.
Hm, interesting. Can you control the flash functions in macro mode?
I was playing around with the Olympus C5050, which is a nice camera overall. But one of the major problems I had with it is you couldn't control the flash in macro mode. I remember thinking, what the heck, why won't it let you do it the way you want to?
Yeah, macro mode is one of the more 'automatic' modes on the 300D, it doesn't give you a lot of control. I've found that I get just as good results in a shutter priority mode. I'll have to do some brightly lit non-reef stuff sometime in macro and non-macro to test the differences.
How does the macro mode control the focus and aperture? Does it allow for closer focus than manual focus does?
Oh, hey! I snapped some really cool macro shots of showflakes and ice crystals over the weekend. I can't wait to get home tonight so I can crop 'em and post 'em here tomorrow.
