I was cutting up some lettuce the other night and decided to go grab the camera.

Cool. Fantastic DOF control. :D About the only way it might be better is if the focus was on the point of the knife. Still awesome as-is though.

if that's what you use on lettuce, i'd hate to see the axe you must use on steak! :P :)

That's a really nice knife, btw. I've been looking for a flat-edged blade like that, but about 6" or 8", not a full sized butcher's knife. I hate curved blades, but can't seem to find one I like. I've got one old Molybdenim/Titanium blade knife that's as old as me that's pefect, but the handle is starting to crack on it. :(

Great pic, great knife.

I have a 6" chineese solid meat cleaver I use for everything. Cost under $20.

Nice!

What aperture f-stop were you using?
I like the larger focal depths of smaller apertures... Someday, Im gonna gind a lens that'll suck up so much light, use a flash, and maybe some external lights, and see how small I can get the aperture while still keeping a fast shutter speed! *Just plain freakin fantasy...*

By the way, I use a Wustoff "Chef's Knife", and the thing sucks! Very fine blade that loses its edge faster than I can take a stone to it! If I ever get back into blacksmithing and get a decent forge going, Im gonna make my own damn knives; forget paying royalties and premiums! Course', gotta learn how to cut or fold the blades better to even get close to those guys, not to mention tempering! *recalls making only rudimentary low-grade iron and scrap-metal junk...*

I like your blade better, though, since I think the scallops on the side really make a difference; shoulda got that one! "D'oh!"

I don't really know--it was all on auto. I just set it to portrait mode, allowed the auto focus to do it's thing, and pushed the button. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but I haven't had time to mess with the manual settings to really do any sort of decent shot. No flash (I hate flash), just the light coming in through a southern window above the sink.

I knida figured it wasnt with flash...
Flash can make some really nice effects, though, especially if you dial in the setting for such into the camera, or it has its own programed mode for flash!
Yeah, I dont really know how youd change the aperture with your camera; what is your camera, by the way? :D
I dont suppose it has interchangable lenses, does it? I think the ones that have that format still have the f-stop adjuster ring on the lens, right?
Dunno; never even been close to a DSLR yet!

My camera is a Kodak EasyShare DX6490. There is a manual mode where I can go fully manual and mess with the settings, but I don't know enough about them to even begin to use them.

Yeah, not that you say something about the Wustoff losing its edge, I have noticed that. A bit frustrating.
