Ya, I just read the announcement right now. It's exciting. The specs on the D70 is terrific and it looks like a D100 with minor scale down. From what I can gather thus far, this camera looks like a sure buy for anyone wanting to enter the wonderful world of dSLRs :)

Canon looks like they have leaked their new 1D replacement too. Of course, it'll probably be a $5K beast, but its supposed specs are interesting. Here's the leaked PDF in french:

It may be taken off line soon, so see it while its there ! :P

Sounds like a terrific camera. But one thing REALLY popped out at me as a major disadvantage-

No ISO 100!!

Does this strike anyone else as a big-time drawback? Or is it just because the lower quality cameras don't shoot as well at 200 that I'm thinking this?

I shoot everything in 100 whenever possible. Is it just me?

There is already an underwater housing for the D70.

I beleive that all Nikon SLRs start at ISO 200. Most of the DSLRs are able to shoot at higher ISO fairly well. You are correct that most lower quality cameras are noisy in general and they will not shoot high ISOs very well.

I have to hold off a while, just spent a fortune on a new PC.

Why don't you go ahead and snag one HD, then you can report back to us?

According to Nikon, this camera is going to go head to head with there D100, it is supposed to be better then the D100. I have had a chance to shoot with it, I really like it, but the body had a crappy feel, wasn’t balanced like the D100 or the Digital Rebel (which I own). It is not a bad camera at all for sub $1,000 w/out lens. I have seen it a few places for $1.299.00 w/lens. I would go with it, maybe with the grip they make for it the balance will be there.
