Is there any drawback to using black substrate? My wife really wants to do that in our next tank. My biggest concern was that I wanted to put a Jawfish in there, and wasn't sure if he would be stressed about it.

Aragonite is a polymorph of calcite that is harder with a higher specific gravity, but it's also obtuse. I'd be afraid of calcite for burrowing/sifting fish only because it has sharper edges. To be fair, I've never tried it so I don't know.

Where does one pick up sand like that? Looks to be a lot healthier than that stuff called Black Magic (I think) that was slag from copper melting.

Tri-City Tropical Fish in Oceanside, California. (Free undeserved ad for them. There is only 1 smart and nice person there and he smells like beer all the time.)

I was going to buy this kind of sand, dont know the degree of size yours has

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/P ... in_merch=1

I decided not to get it for my 200g, though, because I had talked to a few people that had it and didn't like their feedback. They all had bottom dwellers, no starfish or cucumbers. Basically they liked it except they all said its hard to keep "looking clean", dunno about yours. I personally think it looks cool.
