Basic Reef Aquarium Photography

I'm still learning myself. This is probably real basic but I have found through trial and error to get ok results:
- Tripod is a must, use 1 or 2 second delay to avoid camera shake when snapping a shot
- Use lower intensity setting on flash if you can (assuming you're not using a storbe or something more advanced)
- Shoot at an angle to avoid glare
- White balance set to flourescent seems to work well if you have the setting or something similar
I have taken a couple good shots out of hundreds
I'm curious how people get the shots that look like theu were taken w/ the lights off using flash, i.e. lots of deep shadows and very rich colors. Just a guess but do you need a strobe or external flash to achieve this?
