Sea Hare

I was trying to get a decent picture of our sea hare (we call him Sluggo )and I managed to get this shot. I am still trying to learn all the features of our new camera but this is one of my better ones. I just thought I'd share. The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 5400. I just wish I remembered what settings I used!

Cool shot :wink: Any problems with it expelling it's toxin?

If you open your original photo file, right-click on it and go to 'properties', you can see the exif information--that'll tell you all the settings that were used by the camera when the shot was taken.

Interesting critter. Is it a form of sea slur or nudi?

Thanks for the tip Sharkky! I didn't even think about doing it that way!

I have not had any problems with toxin. I can say it is one darn good algae eater! He has cleaned up my tank to the point that I now have to supplement food for him to eat.

Sea hares are safe. They also reproduce (the old fashioned way) and regularly lay more eggs if there is enough food.

Well this guy has polished the rocks of everything. I had been fighting with that cotton-like red algae (almost looks like cotton candy or steel wool), but there is not a drop of it left in the tank. He's not much of a glass climber so I still get a little bit of green algae on the glass that's out of his reach but the snails take care of that.

I have a few sea hares as well. The one in my 220 I hadn't seen for so long that I figured she had died, so I put some powerheads (1200) in there...thinking I was safe. Within a couple days I found her stuck to the intake on the powerhead. I immediately unplugged it, but she was really sucked in. I then tryed to pull her off and thats when she released her ink! OMG! you should have seen it...within seconds the whole tank was purple. I had already pulled her out and put her in a bucket (thinking she was dead) Within minutes the bucket had at least a inch of purple ink in it! Anyways, I added some carbon and everthing cleared within about a hour, the skimmer (big euroreef) was foaming purple for a while. I then remembered poor "Henriatta" and realized she was still alive. She was put back into the tank and immediately crawled away looking for that hair algae that she lives on! I of course removed the powerheads and haven't had any problems since. Lost nothing during this whole episode.
