I'm not a mormom, nor have I, or will I ever be one Just thinking about moving to Utah for business reasons alone
LOL, I misread it at first glance, and I thought you were calling me moron boy. Thats easier to take then mormom boy I can laugh that one off, but mormom
My dad and several of my friends own that camera, it's great. Good for qick aquarium shots, and dacent underwater stuff as well. I think that combo is great for what your paying, and what your going to do with it.
Canon makes very good digital cameras. IMO the best bang for the buck. The camera you linked is a nice camera for the money, but probably not the best camera for underwater photography. I'm not sure what kind of budget you are talking but in a point and shoot you might look at the G6. It is much more appropriate for your needs. It has many features that will aid in quality image capturing. The main thing is the much larger and faster lens. The light gathering ability of the f/2-2.8 lens is well worth the extra money.....especially in dimly lit underwater shooting. This G6 also has an improved 9pt auto focus system that is another great feature to have. You should also consider a quality "off camera" flash unit.
There are some pretty interesting and not too bad disposable underwater cameras on the market. Might be an alternative if you are just using it for a once/twice time dive trip.
The G6 is too expensive for this application, (about double the price of the one I liked above) - they need something that they won't cry too much about if it gets destroyed or lost. And a film camera won't do for this application either.
Mostly this camera will be used for documentation, not art!
Any other suggestions before I order in the morning?
That Canon model is a decent camera for the $$$$. My folks have the previous model to he "85" and it takes very good photos. I think you would be hard pressed to find anything better in that price range.
For some reason...this search didn't work the first time. I have also used buydig.com with good results. Picked up my Canon 20D and 50mm macro lens here. Great prices.
I already had the Digital rebel, so when I wanted a new u/w camera I went with the ikelite housing and ikelite strobes. I love this combo and it's very nice having a clear housing so you can see any leaks right away. Luckly I havent had one yet on this housing.
I used to use a olympus 4040 and olympus housing. For the money it was a great set up and worked well for some time. I was in a rush to go diving once and when we got into the cave I realized the camera wasnt flashing, and quickly realized the front port wasnt fully screwed into place. SO the flood was my fault and over all the set was affordable and took good shots.
