What ever happened to the new computer wallpapers? The last ones posted were on November 16, 2003. Now may be a good time if anyone wants to make some and post them.

I put some of the older ones on my PC at work and everyone was coming by my office asking what they were. It got people interested in reef keeping.

Anyway, there are some creative people out there, so if you have any time, why not post some? I would love to start but unfortunately I don't have a camera, but I do have Photoshop so I've tinkered with a few of the other ones to fit my screen. If you have a picture that you think may make a good wallpaper, post it, and then maybe someone could fix it up.

Just a thought.

Hey Shag,

I am the sole person responsible for the graphical work involved in creating Reefs.org's wallpapers. Each wallpaper takes several hours to create (not including photography time) because I insist on meticulous post-processing work, often done pixel by pixel.

In the latter part of 2003, I ran out of stock photography to convert to wallpapers (the bulk of the photographs were taken by yours truly, with a few submitted by James Wiseman). If people have photos they'd like us to consider as wallpapers, please feel free to email me. FWIW, there are some great photos that don't translate well into wallpapers. I shot photos with the purposeful intent on making them wallpapers. There's a good deal of compositional thought required to photographing an image that is suitable as a desktop background image. Images also have to be inherently crisp/sharp and well-exposed in its native high resolution (I prefer to work with images at least 2000x1500 pixels, preferably 3000x2000).

I am hoping to get new wallpapers up soon. It is definitely a plan for the future. We are looking to change the format in which wallpapers are filed and displayed. Current navigation isn't ideal for either the user or myself (currenntly, I have to update multiple static html pages for each new release of wallpapers). The good news is I have a new tank that is coming online. It should provide ample photography opportunities :)

I'm considering tearing down my 130 and putting up a ripping 29 nano in its place. If anyone wants to donate some frags, I'd be happy to start creating wallpapers. :D
