Thinking of Nikon D80 or D200...

I'm interested in hardcore B&W, but want digital... should I stick with film?

Digital will give you a LOT more versatility in the long run. With photoshop you can emulate pretty much any type of film (bw or color) that was ever made.

When I do bw conversions I prefer a heavy, contrasty bw more like film, so I've just developed a couple of techniques to achieve that look. Plus I've always got the color version to fall back on.

For b&w, it might be reasonable to stick with film. Digital can do b&w, but if you want the best b&w, film's dynamic range has it beat. Otherwise, the D80 or D200 are both fine cameras :)

If you didn't buy it yet and you're not stuck to Nikon, you may have a look at the new Rebel XTi by Canon (supposed to come out this month).

I have both a Digital Rebel as well as a film Rebel 2000. I pretty much NEVER use the film version anymore. I love my digital. So if you go Canon then I don't think you will be dissapointed.
