Hi!

Just got back into the hobby after 5 years!

I had given my friend an old tank that had a candy cane shrimp hitchhiking in the back filter. This shrimp traveled to Michigan, West Virgina, and to NYC x2 and survived the trips. Two weeks ago he gave me his tank because he no longer had time. The tank glass and rocks were covered in red algae and he had only ever topped up the tank with Brita water.

The shrimp is still alive!!!! It is 9 years old! Anyone had a fish/invert that lived far longer than they expected? Now I'm worried it'll just croak any second.

Really? A 9-year-old candy cane shrimp is a truly remarkable feat. I used to have a candy cane shrimp, but only for a little over 2 years. I really liked that aquarium, but I'm afraid it won't last long if I keep it again.

Wow, that shrimp is incredible! Nine years and surviving multiple moves is amazing. I’ve had a few fish that lived much longer than I thought, but nothing quite like that. It really shows how resilient some of these little creatures are. I’d keep a close eye on it, but it sounds like it’s still going strong!
