hey Liz welcome to Manhattan Reefs :)

Your tank looks like a good start. I agree with Kris, the clear background is distracting to the rest of the tank. There are some cool decal type backgrounds that go on with soap and water then peel off when you want them to. if you want the link let me know.

p.s. , were going to get you to upgrade the prism skimmer sooner or later ;)

HaHa! These guys do turn reefing into an addiction. My tank is still on order, but I haven't read the news in weeks because I spend all my time surfing the net for reef stuff:goldfish2

very nice tank. since you are a beginner i would suggest some type of hardy tall coral like pulsing xenia or a nice tall leather for the areas with low rock work. but your tank is very nice and clean looking :D

Nice tank, looks like you are off to a good start.

If you decide to stay with the canister filter and not get a skimmer, make sure you clean/remove the media on a regular basis.

Also, be check out the marketplace as people are regularly giving away leather corals, kenya trees, and xenia that would be perfect for your tank.

Welcome... i think the tank looks really good... i love the clean look display...

ur doing an excellent job... keep it up..

i started out almost the same exact way with the same exact stuff but i had a cascade cannister filter on it... and the prizm skimmer.. lolz.. and i had a reg. 29 gallon..

as nanoreefer (kris) said def. do all that (great advice man)
power head - more water movement def. a plus to have
Background - if you want to do so u can add a black or dark blue background that u can tape on or if you want to get into it u can buy rustoleum latex paint and use a 4 " sponge roller 7 coats of it lata it will look awesome.... the choice is up to u.... (and it peels off very easy.)

also think about getting urself a good skimmer if you would like, it will help the tank so much more then a prizm..

i forget are u looking to eventually put alot of softie corals in there...
