softies will wither and completely melt and stonies will lose all their flesh and leave a bright white skeleton behind. if the coral is small theres nothing to worry about, but if a big open brain or similar coral dies i would change the carbon and maybe do a small water change.

Your tank is cycling so if it dies it doesn;t matter it will just further the cycle. When the cycle is complete you may need to do a water change to lower your nitrates and all will be fine. Take a pic of the Coral and post it and we can tell you if it is dead or not.

is there a procedure for the water if it dies?

This depends on the coral's religious beliefs, but often burial or cramation are viable options.

Ok, but seriously... I've had corals I thought were dead and weeks later opened up and look great now (LPS) so don't take the skeletons out until you're 100% sure (or move them to a QT tank if they're an eyesore in the main tank)
