agree I would wait the 8 weeks due some good water changes. And clean your substrate. Or you could wait the 6 weeks then buy some fish put them in the Q tank for 2 weeks to ensure they are good. Now from personal experiance with this problem. I have started to use garlic as a supplement for food. and my fish area doing well. they where able to fight off ick. But sorry for your lose happend to me too I lost a couple of beautiful fish including my majestic angel. But wait the two months. cleans the substrate. do a large water change make sure you have a UV light and Q your fish. And from now on I recommend the garlic stuff it works reall well. from my experiance with it.

yea i dotn think i will be buying stuff froma lfs again either. i still have 2 fish left that seem to be ok or at least one fo them looks totally fine..

i was looking in the mag called FRESH AND MARINE AQUARIUM, well i saw some stuff called No- ICH, insist on the orignal.... then it has some bullet points and says copper free, no test kits needed, reef safe, biodegradable, pre-mixed and ready-to-use

another quality product from FishVEt, Inc. and a address and number

HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS? anyone ever use it?????

SurferBoy, the term is called 'fallow'. This means running your system without any fish. The appropriate term for running fallow to eradicate ich is 6-8 weeks, as everyone has stated. Trying to shorten the period by introducing products to kill it is ineffective. The ich cyst needs a host to survive. 6-8 weeks is the cycle of the ich cyst. Without any host, the cysts will die and you'll rid your tank of ich.

Save your money, exercise patience and let nature take its course.

Good luck,

Russ

questions guys on the ick factor i have hypod all my fish and left my tank 2 months without fish and i've been ick free for months on nows but thens these past weeks i've seen a spot or two on my hippo from the high temp. does the ick actaully all die off and if not present in tank no matter how bad water quality is fish will not get ick?? or the fish could actally just have ick from stressful conditions?

Ask Warren, heard he's always battling ick. Garlic IMO surppresses the ick, maybe it stimulates the fish to eat more thus makes the fish become more healthy.

Dont use those no-ich products. They're fake and a load of garbage.

Hi Surfer boy

as they all stated ,wait the 6 to 8 weeks ,i would also install a uv sterilizer to kill off all free floating ich (yes i know they will not live without fish in the system)

Then i would make out a list of fish that you want your next time around ,post them on the board and let us help you introduce your fish one 1 at a time ,selecting your fish and introducing them is also a factor with ich ,if you put the wrong fish in 1st it might bother others and cuz you problems ,QT is very important you must QT your fish ,,,.also once you get to a point that you have the right amonut of fish in your tank ,dont go buy more having too many fish in a tank will also cuase problems with ich

alright :( 6 to 8 weeks is so long.. i was told uv ster. is bad for a reef tank cause it kills the good stuff in the water too. i need my fog algea for my linkia so i dont 6 a uv ster. happening. i was think about a pygmy angel fish.... i was in the city at new world aquariums and they hadd 2 angels in there display tank. both looked healthy and werent bothering each other. HOW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH THAT???????!!!! i would liek to have too if i could but i know they fight. as for other fish.. i would say for now i know i deff want the angel and maybe a red sea purple pseudochromis or the regular purple ( strawberry) pseudochromis. im not sure about other fish... any ideas? i wish i could get a tang but the tank is too small its only a 55 gallon

I would avoid pseudochromis unless your tanks are mostly semi-aggressive fish, you will limit your choice of fish a lot. Most vendors will tell you they are semi aggressive but actually they are more aggressive than damsels of the same size in general.
