what makes a seaclone a bad skimmer ? sorry I'm new to this expense
It's the design of the SeaClone. It absolutely does nothing.
Don't worry...we've all been down that road. Definitely up-grade skimmers.

go to ebay or wait for someone selling a better skimmer such as a remora or sumtin
Tony.....the Remora is not sufficient for 125 gallons.

What makes a skimmer a good skimmer is the concetration of bubbles it can produce along with it's ability to adjust the foam concentration within the skimmer body.

Look at the seaclone. That little tornado of bubbles is actually very little bubbles. The body of a quality skimmer will be almost white with bubbles, like a glass of milk:tongue1:

Since you don't have a sump you will be limited to a hang-on style skimmer which are all relatively weak for a 125G. For the money your best bet would be an Aqua C Remora Pro http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...t_Code=AQUAC-REMORAP-M7XT&Category_Code=AquaC
which is still undersized for your reef but 100x better than the seaclone.

Look at your current setup as a learning experience. We have all been where you are. It all depends on what level you would like to take the hobby to. All the info is here for the taking.:birthday:
