I'm finally getting ready to upgrade from my 30 gallon which is a mixed reef. I have 2 tanks to choose from one is a regular 75 gallon reef ready and the other is a 90 gallon oceanic tank euro braced with starfire glass drilled with a glass holes 1500 gph overflow decisions I like the 90 but it will have to be about 4 inches away from the wall for the plumbing opposed to the reef ready 75 that will go right up against the wall any thoughts on this?

i would def do the 90 more space no overflow in tank also .....but if that 4 inches really is that crucial then u might have to go diffrent ........

is that tech custom done with that over flow ?

I drilled it myself Came out perfect then taped it off and painted the back black looks great. The only other reason I was considering the 75 was for maintenance reasons eaiser to clean.

Why would the 75 be easier to clean? Also might be a PIA when something gets into that overflow. Is the 90 drilled for returns too? Personally I always put my tanks somewhat off the wall in case I ever need to get behind them for something. I didn't put my 50 far enough off the wall and now can't use my drop in chiller.

I'd go 90 as well: the required equipment is pretty same for both and I'm not sure the 75 is going to be that much easier to clean than the 90. I'm same as cmantis I would like my tank further away from wall than currently is situated

Thanks guys I will go with the 90.The reason I said it would be easier to clean is because of the difference in glass height and canopy.

The t5 will hold better coral growth on the 75. Its all about light penetration to the bottom of the tank. (par) . With proper kelvin bulbs that fixture should hold up to most corals you can buy. If you are thinking SPS only they may need to be high up to do fine. The 90 sounds awesome, but if you need the space get the 75. They are basically 2 of the same tanks. the 90 will have a much nicer look to it due to starfire. The starfire will make things look less distorted and discolored (even though our eyes dont see much of this anyway)

Thanks for all the responses guys I really appreciate it. I'm going with the 75G for now upstairs in my living room where I spend most of my time for now until I can finish my basement, I'm planning on using the 90 for a future basement man cave build or a 180G depending on how smooth the 75 goes. The equipment I have so far is the 75G tank RR ,eshopps 36 inch sump not happy with the sump it has no refugium section for such a big sump only 2 partitions at the end where the return pump goes anyway maybe I can glue in a section ,reef octopus skimmer rated for a 200-300 gallon tank bought it big for future upgrade and the solar max extreme 4 bulb T5 with ATI bulbs. 2 heaters,2 powerheads I really want a self sufficient system so what am I missing?

Good choice either way. If you feel the 75 would be easier to maintain for whatever reason its for the best. If you think you are going to have a somewhat tough time with a certain tank for whatever reason for regular maintenance than IMO its bad. If its easier to do maintenance your more likely to do it.

If you take a picture than put it onto your desktop in a folder, you can click "go advanced" than there will be a selection on the tab to upload the picture from either a URL or your computer. I believe its a digital picture of a yellow background with a mountain looking thing in it. lol Make sure you get those pictures up.

Personally (Leo Speaking) Always go with the larger tank, not to mention it is Starphire and Eurobraced. You will want to upgrade from T5 to LED eventually anyway. In the Reef World, real estate is precious, always buy up as much as you can afford. You can always upgrade equipment, but moving an entire tank all over again is the a real pain the as*

A 4 Bulb will be good for most softies and some LPS in the uper 1/3 of the tank, but I would highly recommend upgrading to LEDs for SPS and Clams to truly utilize every square inch of the water column.
