might work. It may be better to change the bulb to just a daylight (6500k 0r 10K). What type of Macro are you trying to grow? How deep is your fuge? I have the bulbs Melev recommended and I also have another fuge with the 24" Compact fluorescents. The CF is 10K and the Macro grows great under them (Saw and chaeto).

If it's just going over a fuge (not a frag tank as well) you'll want a lower kelvin rating.

Why don't we use lower K raitings above our tank? Why won't that $40 HPS light from HD work instead of a $250 MH? Because the K rating is too low and you'll grow more algea than you will coral.

So why not use a lower temp bulb on your fuge. I used to use my old PC bulbs that were past their active life (for the tank) My cheato grew like crazy!

Also you can get plant bulbs at HD that should work in that fixture.
