Acrylic cutter

I bought a couple of acrylic sheets and I need to cut it to different sizes. Anyone can help? Any input is appreciated also....

Took mine to a harware store in manhattan, they did it for $1 a cut. Some sandpaper and elbow grease and wha-lah....acrylic cut and ready for building. You neevr know, check out places like ace, even HD and they may cut it for you. Never know til you ask.

Ryobi table saw $99 home depot - acrylic blade was like $40

a regular wood saw works also if you can't find an acrylic saw for the table saw.

Just go slow because the plastic heats up the blade quick (wood doesn't heat up saw blades if they are sharp, cool little tidbit of info), and the quicker you go the more chances you give yourself to rip up and chip the edges as your cutting it.

If you have any carpentry shops near your house, they will usually cut it also for u.

lols i cut mine with a rough a$$ mabe 80 teeth saw blade and then routered it out and it was good! u might not even need a fine blade if u don't have one!

i have a little hand held knife that scores acrylic if it's thin enough. cost a couple bucks @ a hardware store.

1/4" and yes.. straight cuts...

the scoring knife works for 1/8th but a quarter in. maybe to thick. wish i could of helped.

I've cut 1/4" with a score cutter. You just have to make a few passes at the cut. And you also have to make sure you get the edges of the sheet scored really well.

But you can't beat the routered edge for clean glue lines. I bought a cheapo ryobi router table at HD for $100. add a $15 flush cut bit and you're good to go.

thank you guys, this project is not a rush so I will try to take my time and figure out a way to do it the best possible way...

If you have a chance, you can go to a hardware store (the old fashioned kind), and they can cut it for you. Usually a dollar per cut. That will give you nice clean cuts, then you can sand or rout it. Or get an acrylic scorer make a few passes, use a metal ruler as your guide... and crack it.

A "friend" of mine once used a jig saw to make the cuts. Needless to say it did not work and I... oh I mean he... just pretty much wasted his time. :splitspin
