Ok, so i have a JBJ nano 24g, and knew about the pump problem with rust for a while. The JBJ nano cubes had a crappy pump that tended to rust randomly overnight and you would wake up without any livestock with beating hearts, sometimes after a month sometimes after 6 months.

I emailed JBJ after i first got the tank and they said that the model i have hasn't seen the rust problem as of yet, and i got the ones with the new pumps, after they fixed the problem with the old pumps.

Anyways woke up today and thank god no livestock was dead. The pump wasn't working properly for two days and today it was barely pushing anything out, i checked the pump over the weekend and everything was fine with it. i opened it up and didn't see any rust or anything. I Took out the pump today, took out the magnet prop and the metal shaft was stuck onto the prop. Pulled it off and seen corrosion on the metal (wasn't there over the weekend) and alot of new rust on the shaft.

Anyways, Word to the wise. I know a few people who have JBJ's on the boards. Change the pump Pronto and don't trust JBJ when they said they fixed a problem they couldn't fix for two years and change your pump, no matter how recent the tank is from the factory.

JBJ is getting an email about this. BTW. if something does happen to your tank, JBJ has no responsability in replacing lost livestock due to a defect.

I replaced the pump with a MJ 1200 about 3 weeks after I bought my 12DX. I did it more for the flow than because of any rust issue. I still use the original pump that I took out of it though to make water or just to stir stuff. I know of a few people that put the pump back into the tank just to add some extra flow. This is the first time that I have heard about this rust problem, that sucks. Oh well, why don't you just put a different pump in? For the 24gal you could get one of the smaller Rio's or I bet an MJ would do a better job than the stock pump you have in there now anyway. You can go to nanotuners.com, give them a call. I use them for all my little nano projects and they have great customer service, put it comes at a small price :)

I have the aquapod 12 gallon and it seems like across the board on these type of cube tanks everyone recommends the Maxi Jet 900 or 1200. I didn't even think about it and upgraded.

Now I plan to use the original as a water stirrer as well.
