tested again just a few minutes ago with new kits (red sea) to compare what i was testing with my AP kit, which someone told me was unreliable.

here are the results (LR in tank for only 48 hours)

ammonia - 0 (was .50 yesterday)
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 10
pH - 8.2
alk - 2.1
phosphate - .2

if i don't see a rise in ammonia, would you do anything to force it? don't i have to have an ammonia spike to cycle a tank? it just seemed wierd that the ammonia was detectable yesterday but not today...anyone ever experience that before? also, i don't know much about alk and phosphate (but they were there so i tested)...what am i looking for in these? thanks!

didn't you only add your LR a day ago? you need to be a little more patient then that :) :)

yeah, two days ago...and don't worry, i am patient, i am just confused by what i'm seeing because i expected to see no nitrates and more ammonia...that's why i'm asking.
