what's the best way to securely hang a hood from the ceiling?

I have a hood with 2 connection points at the top and I'm going to take a trip to home depot to get everything needed to hang it.

How high from the tank should a hood be?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on what kinds of bulbs you have should determine your height - if halides, you should raise it a little more than T5's/PC's but not too high where you defeat the lights purpose of shining onto your tank.

I would consider something similar to what Prattreef did - that is a set of metal shelving brackets secured to the wall and he drilled small holes in the ends to hang the pendant(s) by the picture frame wire with adjustable slips at the end. I am not sure where to get the slips as they usualy come with the fixtures.

Make sure you use heavy duty anchors or better still, toggle bolts. You don't want the hood to come crashing down on the tank!
