where should my heater be in conjunction with my filter .right now it is placed on the opposite side of filter

If you have decent flow in the tank.....anywhere is fine.

If its a HOB type filter IMO I would put it where the intake tube is. This is where I keep mine. I figure it heats the water then the cascading flow spreads the heated water throughout the tank evenly. Its also good aesthetically I think cause mine is basically up in the left corner. So its not like there is a ton of stuff hanging from the glass.

I keep mine in the sump- near the return pump.
