How to get rid of worms in your tank??

Hi all,

I just set up my tank yesterday and I've already seen one small worm in the tank. It probably came with the Live rocks.

A tank that has too much nutrient may cause the over population of the worms. Would they be able to survive in a tank that has no live stocks in it? if so, for how long?

My question is how would you get rid of your worms in your tank? Are there any fish or shrimps that would hunt them down?

they could bristle worms and if there is nothing in the tank to eat i would assume that in time they would perish not sure how long it would take being that there could be things in the LR for them to eat.but there are different wormssome good

most worms you see in our tanks are GOOD worms. they are part of the clean up crew and the best part is they come for free on the rocks.
don't worry about them eating, they always find food, and the population will match how much food there is.

I added several frozen shrimp meat I got from the super market in my tank to speed up the cycle.

I have 20+ lb of Live rocks and they are all 100% cured. Not sure I will see some ammonia spikes.

When can I add shrimps or fish in my tank?

It could be a few months before your tank is stable enough for livestock. Your ammonia and nitrite levels will dictate when it's safe.

P.S. You only need 1 shrimp to start the cycle.

To my understanding, it would be a shorter cycle with 100% cured LRs in the tank since there is not going to be die off from the LRs, correct?

so if my ammonia, nitrite and nitrate stays at zero after an ammonia spike, then it means my tank is cycled?

BTW, there are a lot of bubbles and foams coming out of the skimmer cup cover.

Is there anything I can do about it? maybe use some tissue paper to cover the hole?

You probably should get some uncured rock to help with your cycle Die off is what's gonna start your cycle going, similar to the table shrimp (dead) that you are throwing in your tank. I would get the shrimp out and just throw a pinch of fish food in there and let it be, also add some uncured rock.


If they stay at zero forever you have a problem, I cycled my first tank in about a month that was a 29 gal tank.


If it's a remora like it looks, raise the cup as high as you can and lower it a little each week. Don't cover the hole it will overflow around the edges of the cup and onto the floor if you plug up the hole.

keep testing the ammonia and nitrites, like Deanos said that will tell you when the tank is ready. 3 weeks at best.

Why do you want me to replace the shrimp with fish food? what type of fish food are you talking about here? dry or frozen fish food?

And yes, the skimmer cup is half way full of dirty water and the top half are foams and bubbles. I've emptied the cup three times this afternoon. The foam and bubble issue started after I dumped in another 12 lbs of cured LRs this afternoon.

or it maybe something to do with that the skimmer is at the end of breakin period. So it started to pull things it suppose to.
