Hi all,

This is going to be my 20g reef tank and there are 20lb of live sand with 27 lb of Live Rocks in the tank at this point.

I want to add 2 true percular clown fish and maybe couple other small fish such as yellow tail blunny

I was wondering how many shrimps can I have in my tank?
I like the blood shrimp, peppermint shrimp and clear shrimp.

Thanks

I would say no more than 2.

Is there a relationship between live rocks and shrimps?

Someone told me it would be too much for my LRs to handle if I want to keep more than two shrimps in my tank.

I don't know what is that suppose to mean..

any idea? Thanks

Live rock will handle your bioload, all living things you add to the tank becomes part of your bioload.

I would add a cleaner and the percs and maybe a goby then that's it for that tank. If you have a good skimmer that is.

Live rock's main purpose is to help give the nitrifying bacteria a place to colonize and break down the amonia to nitrite and the nitrite to nitrate.

I'm not sure of the compatability of the shrimp you listed above but I can tell you that in my tank I have twice added a few peppermint shrimp with my coral banded shrimp. I've never seen the peppermint shrimp after adding them. It was a total of four shrimp, I had always assumed that the Coral Banded took them out. I say that because both times I bought the fish for an aptasia quarentine. They were in a 10 gallon tanking for well over a month and properly acclimated into the big tank. Just never saw the shrimp again.

:bigeyes2: It's possible that the Coral Banded took them, yeah.. Now I know why there are only Coral Banded shrimps in a tank in the LFS.
But they are supposed to be peaceful according Drs Foster and Smith website.

Maybe they weren't getting enough food from you.

Pep shrimp are evil and deserve to die. They klilled Zoa's and palys on me and decimated my yellow polyps in a matter of days. GOOD CORAL BANDED SHRIMP!

I probably going to get one fire shrimp and one coral banded shrimp. and maybe I need to make sure they are in the same size?

Any comments on these two shrimps?

Thanks

2 cleaners 1 fire and 1 Coral banded in my 55 and no problems. Add them all at the same time or coral banded last. Fire shrimp is a different kind of cleaner type shrimp

Dunno really.

Don't know if this helps but I have 10 Emerald crabs in a 30 gallon frag tank with a minimum of rock work (Maybe 20lbs of LR), and they've been doin' great. Of course that's all I have in there besides mushroom corals, montipora capricornis, and 5 small frags. And the tank has a Prizm Pro on it for a skimmer.

Hope that helps.

B, you think you might have gotten Camelback shrimp sold to you as "Peppermints". They do look VERY similar.
