Hi all,

I am looking to buy a PH meter and I would like to know what meter provides the most accurate result.

I would appreciate for a link to the product.

Thanks

Go for the pinpoint. I've found mine to be reliable, and every few months I take the probe out and test it's calibration and found it doesn't need much tweaking. That's a good offer from Alistair. The only thing I'd mention is that they do recommend changing the probe itself every year or so. Mine is about a year old, but it still reads perfectly with calibration fluid, so I'm not certain if that recommendation is just very conservative.

Electrode lifetime depends on the construction, storing and usage - plus you may have some luck. Sometimes 6 months is too long. 1 year is not a very conservative lifetime - most electrodes of this age are not reliable.

However, as long as the electrode works correctly (try to switch between buffer/calibration solutions several times to see how good electrode keeps its indications, don't forget to flush it with DI or RO water when moving between solutions) - don't worry.

More on electrodes on my site www.ph-meter.info, but feel free to ask here.

Note - I can't help with the pH meter selection, I am rather on the chemical/general theory side of things

You mean the Pinpoint? The only thing I don't believe is 0.01 accuracy, which is usually very hard to attain. Probably more like 0.05 in practice - at least that's what I have heard about similar devices. That's not the problem with particular pH meter model/pH electrode model, that's general accuracy of the technology.

In the very precisely controlled lab environment you can get down to 0.001 or even better, but that's completely different story.

Pinpoints are good. the advantage this has over the handheld on is you can leave the probe in the sump and get a constant reading. no need to bring it out everytime. btw, i might be getting rid of mine if anyone's interested. I might go for the RK2.

I agree with Nsr250NYC. I leave my probe in. For me it's like walking by and checking the temp. They are right next to each other, and I like knowing both.
