Cleaner Shrimp Question..

I notice there are some black marks next to the eye of my cleaner shrimp. The black mark appears on the both side behind the eyes. The black marks didn't seem obvious when I first purchased shrimp last week. I've gotten much darker recently. The shrimp is a little more than a inch long and there is another Fire shrimp in the tank too.

I was wondering does the darkened black marks mean something or the shrimp is trying to tell me something such as bad water quality, hungry or nervous etc?

any idea?

Hmmm I'm not sure if this is consistent... but whenever my shrimp gets black marks on its head I feel like it means it's getting ready to molt... however don't trust me on that, I've just seen that a few times and it always molts soon after.

I think my shrimp molted last week.. I dont know. Let's wait n see.

Just didn't think your tank would be ready for anything, much less shrimp. Since that was only two weeks ago, can't imagine the tank made such a drastic turn around. But what do I know.

That's what I've been told by most of people. But I would guess a smaller tank would take much shorter time to cycle specially when I have added Cured Live Rocks and the grocery shrimps I've dumped in. It seems speed up things pretty quickly.

My tank seems stable as long as I don't add too many fish at a time. Currently I have only two small shrimps. They are happy and healthy.

Right, cause you everyone knows the smaller the tank the smaller the cycle. I've been told that a million times over, I just don't seem to believe it. Oh yea and those grocery shrimps, all what was it 6 or 7, probably made you cycle go super fast. Maybe the cloudy water was a sign of what was to come, the speediest, most profound tank ever seen.

Good luck with it. When your shrimp die, you can go buy replacements for a lifetime and claim that they're happy and healthy.

And just for shts and giggles, what constitutes you thinking your tank is stable? Any test results you'd care to share, well you don't even have to cause I bet they're damn near perfect.

Ok, I see there are some disagreements on how long should you wait for your tank to settle before adding any live stock...

I test my water everyday and I tested again just now.

Temp: 80F
PH: 7.9
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 15 PPM

What makes me think I have a stable tank?? Good question..
1. I had Ammonia Spike two weeks ago
2. Nothing out of ordinary occurred during the cycling process
3. Test water everyday and the results have been the same for almost a week. (0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, detectable nitrate)
4. Lights on at least 9 hours a day for the past 6 days, very little brownish color algae at the sandbed surface, nothing major.
5. Live stocks active, constantly searching for food n eat like pigs

I guess the smaller tank smaller cycle theory seems to be proven to be true. I know many of you don't want to believe this theory and like to see my shrimps die in my tank. Well, truth hurts sometimes.

Here is a link to another reef site member's 10g tank set up process, take a look how long this guy waited for his tank to settle before adding his live stocks. Any death due to the new tank syndrome in his tank?

Nice job on the tank. I am just curious.. How many days have you waited before adding the live stock in your tank? about 1.5 weeks, right?

The reason I'm asking this is because the reef experts always advice new comers to be patient and wait at least a couple of months before adding any live stocks.

It seems that you've added live stock to your tank pretty quickly and I didn't see any live stock death at this point. So I'm kinda confused about why people advice us to have a such prolong waiting period.

Adviced huh? Nice. Dude you have no idea how long that guy researched his tank before he set it up. At the very least buy some books and get a clue about the livestock before you put it in your tank. IMO you just want a tank and then you want to be "adviced" that what you are doing is good, but when someone differs in opinion (or many differ in opinion) you throw stuff like this in our faces. If that's the case you don't want help you just want validation and that's not gonna happen here. I know people who have set up tanks in the same day added fish and they have lived for years, I also know people who have done this and had them die in 10 minutes. There are different levels of knowledge and you don't seem to get it. Make a decision, do you want help or validation. Get a clue, and don't ask for help if you don't want it.

Some people just hate to see they are wrong. Many years of reefing makes you an experienced hobbyist, but that doesn't mean you know everything and force people to do things according to your book.

There are many ways of doing this right. Some ways would take longer, others are not.

From now on, please do not bother reply my threads for those of you who dislike me for doing things not according to the experts.

Seems you ask the same questions here as you do there as well. you just take the answer you want and do that. Hey, you know what, you can put a black tip reef shark in that tank and it will live for 100 years. go ahead.

RIF in this hobby. Hey I have other hobbies too but in this one if something that is alive dies 90% of the time it's your fault. So keep killing things, listen to whoever is gonna give you the answer you want to hear and be done with it.

Again I reiterate: Do you want help or validation.

Dude. Your tank is not stable. You don't even know why your shrimp has black markings. Lol. My tank has been up for 10 months and I'll be damned to say its stable. All my parameters are right but I still have problems with livestock. And the reference eating like pigs, you mean to tell me that if someone threw you in a dirty prison cell and you were starving you woundnt eat? Ur water needs time to be considered stable. That means setup for a year or more not 3 weeks.lol. Just take ur answer and do you know what with it. Stop asking for help and then get mad when people tell you suggestions isn't that why you asked your question? Nano was just trying to tell you what the problem could be. Was that you don't want to wait and that could mean problems in the future.rushing is not the answer to a stable tank. Care and time is what will allow ur tank to thrive. By the way your doing things you can mess up and cause little to no growth to occur.
