Anyone using a canister filter and either running Carbon or Phos through it ? Or both ? And also whats best way to clean the filter ? I am getting new hose's. It was used for fw, and i know never use anything from fw for sw. But I was thinking of soaking it in a vinegar mix and then running mix through it for a few days. Then run some of my water change water through it. Any suggestion's on type of media used this way? Phos or Carbon used. ty rick

I run carbon only and change it ever 4 to 6 weeks regardless of water quality. I also change the filter pads and rinse out the Ehfimech that Eheims need to keep the water flow even.

I run a fluval 205 24/7 with carbon/purigen and no sponges. Carbon gets changed every 2 weeks and the canister is rinsed out every week

I have been using a eheim classic with nothing but some filter floss, chemi pure,phos-zorb for two weeks now .I see a big change in water quality ie;clearer and cayano almost completely gone and the algea not growing as fast. The filter is the one with the slowes flow rate I believe is 109 gph.
