Have you tried looking at pics of differnet reefs around and trying to replicate a small section of it ? That what I did lol.

I don't think I've ever been happy with any of my Aquascaping, but somehow once the corals grow in they always seem to look nice.

The best piece of advice I could give you is to plan out where your corals can grow. I also think a few dark areas, such as caves or overhangs tend to make a nice look.

personal preference

I guess it really boils down to personal preference. Me personally I like the idea that less is more and prefer tall structure with lots of arches or openings between the rocks and more open water than rock. Unfortunately that can be very limiting in a 30 gal tank. The trick with that style aquascaping is securing the rock with puddy or tie wraps. Done right it might come out like this German setup. (The water is cloudy because its an add for coral foods.)

I printed out a bunch of pictures of different tanks that I like so I had something to reference while I was working. The best advise is that no matter how good it looks - make it stable! Rockfalls are the worst!

I wish I had time, but I'm busy all week, and you will be done by the end of the week or be crazy.
If not, by the weekend I MAY have time, but don't want ant type of payment.

Your welcome to stop by and see my tank anytime for ideas if you like the rock work I have.

i looked at a bunch of other mebers and just mixed it up a bit. in this pic the left and side consist of two pillars.i drilled a hole in them and stacked them on a 1/2" pvc pipe.more to the right is just a bunch of stuff thrown together.it was about 5 in the morning so i didnt want to wake the wife and kids making drilling noises.lol
