Anything I should be looking for or aware of when assessing the quality of a used chiller? Are there components which may wear out? Pieces to be replaced or checked before purchase? Brands likely to break or become less useful over time? Brands that retain value and quality over time?
I'm looking at an AquaLogic 1/3 HP chiller w. controller and really have a poor frame of reference for trying to estimate it's value. :smash:

Thanks

So many types it hard to recommend one, but I will say if your paying a good chunk of change it is worth it to have it looked at by a pro to check it has, and keeps a full charge.
I know your not in CT but I'm sure someone on the board know of someone in NY.

About $70 get mine it's yearly check and charg if need be.
This a piece of harware you don't want to fail.

Sorry to say but new is always better I think when your talking a chiller.
At least you will know it from the start.

Aqua Logic is a good brand.

Ask the seller to take the cover off so you can look for signs of corrosion\rust on the unit, look in the aluminum fins on the condenser to make sure they are not beat up. Turn on the unit with the cover off and the copper tubing should frost up in a minuet or two, do not let the unit run for more then 5 minuets without water passing thru the exchanger coil.

Let me know if you have specific question regarding this type of chiller, I have owned quite a few chillers from Aqua Logic, Customsealife, and Westcoast Aquatics and they are all of the same design and use same compressors.

I second that. You are better off buying a brand new one at least you know what are you getting. IMO the savings on a used one in minimal.
