I am looking to replace the single heater that I have in my tank for 2 smaller ones (for redundancy). My tank is 30 gallons so I would be looking at 2 - 50W heaters correct ? The one I have now is a Hydor 150W

What would you all recommend ?

Thanks !

I use marineland they are very very accurate. As with all new heaters you should check your water temp regularly, when they are installed, to make sure they are not broken, from manufacturing or transport. I also had 2 won bro's and they are horribly calibrated! one is +/-5 and the other is totally broken.

The stealth heaters are a black rubberized tube. no glass to break and as soon as they come out of the water they shut off automatically and when they go back into the water they turn back on.

My Stealth heater failed miserably. I put my hand in my topoff tub (which is where I had the Stealth, luckily), and I got shocked. I unplugged the powerhead and heater, no shock. Plugged the powerhead in, no shock. Plugged the Stealth in......wham bam thank you ma'am. No Stealths for me ever again.

BTW, the heater was about 5 weeks old when this happened.

DAMN Sorry to hear that. Must have been a defect. As I said I got mine for 3 years and knock wood never a problem.

Definitely was a defect. Fortunately I wasn't grounded. Could have been an electrifying experience

There are many heaters on the market. At some point in time, every one of them seems to have their faults. Whether it be stray voltage, breaking glass, rusting parts, sticking on or sticking off, etc. all the manufacturers seem to have a degree of acceptable failure. Some higher than others.

I've had some good success with Finnex titanium tubes and Ebo Jager (old models, new ones I can't vouch for). Whichever one you decide on, it is adviseable to use a controller as a redundancy or failsafe system.
