If the skimmer is rated for tanks up to 300g and you only have a total volume of water of 140g i don't see any reasons to upgrade.
There are MANY reasons. If you stay in this hobby long enough, you will find out that skimmer ratings are extremely inflated.

But also be advised that the "your skimmer can never be too big" is also bad advice. :irked:
I have a 90g & 20g with a 30g sump. I hope I have at least 100 gallons of water. rock and sand displace alot of wateryou only have a total volume of water of 140g
