Glass Canopy?

I have a 37 gallon and i was wondering if anyone knows the benefits of having a glass canopy. I know if you have some fish that could jump out that would be a benefit but is there any other or should i just remove it so there is more water evatoration.

I mean i realy dont have anything above my tank that would fall in. I am thinking about the dust, would that be a problem?

When you say "canopy" I think of a box (sometimes with fans) which surrounds lights etc.; are you just talking about a glass top? or actually a full canopy?

i believe open top also allows for better O2 exchange rate n cools better(more benificial in summer). dust usually isnt a problem unless u live in a factory or some sort.

I have a glass canopy. I use it for two reasons:

My T5 lighting requires a closed canopy.
Slows down evaporation.

I wash out my canopy once every 3 days to insure max lighting to tank.

Not too concerned with oxygen exchange since the protein skimmer already injects it in the water.

i use a glass canopy in the winter for better heat insulation from my 2 mh,
in the summer i leave it off for better cooling.

so far my kids have thrown toys on my tank and if it wasnt for my glass top my fish would have been playing with barbies and pokemon..:lol2:

I use to have a glass canopy but I got tired of having to clean it so often. I don't use one anymore but its not a bad idea.

i use to use one too, but didnt want the 25% cut (even when clean which aint often :smileon the intensity of my lighting.i needed it for the hood to sit on. but once i build my hood mount, i took it right off.

I use a glass top. I have to, or I'd have enough dog hair in it to consider just using it in place of filter floss. Oh, and Duke, he already threw his pet rabbit toy up, and landed it right on the glass for 2 points .
