1st ask yourself ,,,self ,do i want pillers ,caves ,more open space ,or more like a reef legde..then start your project ,this way you have more of an idea of what you want your tank to look like

It takes time. It's like putting a puzzel together you have to keep looking at the tank and the rocks you have and try and fit them together little by little.
Try to have the rocks under water in as many containers as posible that way you could see each piece indivisual. It's harder when all the rocks are in one container and on top of each other the piece you need could be on the bottom if you know what I mean.
Try putting in a few pieces at a time and walk away from the tank come back and look at it again, it's your piece of art so take your time you'll find what works for you .
Hope this is of some help I hate posting some times because of my writting skills but I try.
Another note you might not need to get all the rock in there somtimes this is the problem just to much rock

I had someone help me set up my rock work - at first. It was really helpful to see how someone did it. and then from there- as things settled and toppled or needed to fuss with the corals I got better at it. the person came back one other time. So I think it is a really nice idea to have someone who has done it befor help and learn from. at this point I am totally in love with my rock work.

Sadly I am a VERY newbie and live far away with no car.

Fingers crossed for ya

This is a great opportunity to put your flavor into the tank. What looks good to someone else might not work for you. So having someone come in to do it for you will only result in your tank looking like someone else's creation.

I recommend taking a tarp and laying it out, putting all your rock on it (have lots of towels handy) and design your 'scape with the vision spread out. It's much easier to 'see' the end result if you know what pieces (size and shape) you have available to you.

One more thing, don't be afraid to use a hammer and cold chisel or dremel to sculpt the rock to fit a certain space.

This is how I 'prepped' my rock wall:

duke, our reefscapes are our own masterpieces. take your time and don't get fustrated with it... ive learned through experience its within us reefer to design our own aquascapes... everyone and there mother can help you but would u appreciate as much if you did it yourself... i would say no... duke as previously stated check out tank pics and even go on RC.com and check out tanks of the months and see what tanks aquascapes you like... print it and try to do just that... you will appreciate it 100% more then if someone did it for you.... bring out the inner reef and show us what you can do.... ;) you very capable of doing it, just show us..... good luck man..
