I tried using a napkin as a filter
When you say the lowest reading on the scale, are you talking the lightest blue color? If so, your PO4 is actually up over 0.3, not the 0.03 the kit says. The slightest tint of blue which is unreadable on the chart is usually over 1.5ppm. Salifert kits aren't very accurate. Many people were surprised with how high their PO4 was when I tested it on a Hanna. Based on what you are saying, yours is probably the same.Measured with a Salifert test kit....the lowest reading on the scale (and I started my tank with ALL tap water) I've since been using ONLY RO/DI water ever since...

My bad. I'm not throwing any shots at you. I'm just giving you a heads up on Salifert kits. While I think their Ca, Mg and alk kits are okay, their nutrient kits are not so good. I'm sure your tank is thriving.:wink1:Maybe so but I would attribute that to the fact that my tank is just 2 months old and was originally filled with tap water. I am sure all of my live rock and sand is still leaching Phosphates and I find it doubtful that rinsing frozen shrimp with tap water (and i am not introducing ANY tap water into my tank) is raising my Phosphates. I'm no expert by any means....I have also had my Phosphates tested at my LFS...but I do know that I don't have ANY issues with algae and all of my corals are happy![]()
2 words....Brine shrimp net
