replacing 65 g reef tank

i will be replacing my 65g tank with another 65 g ,i would like to get rid of
4" of crushed coral i have in there now,and replace it with 4 " of sand.i have about 100 pounds of live rock.would this cause a problem? .my tank is over a year old. thanks :biggrin:

Take everything out of the old tank before you disturb that crushed coral. Chances are you've got a bit of "mung" caught up and inbetween that crushed coral.

"Mung" is a Fritzism for the nasty, smelly biological waste, uneaten foods, etc which are commonly called detritus.

Why don't you guys just use a gravel vacuum and suck some of those out? I do that to both my fresh and salt water setups.
