welcome to MR. i place my zoas in the lower region of my reef and they seem to do good. i do have a few in the mid level area though, and i have seen people keep them at the top of there tnak(Ronen's sweet reef tank  ). remember when they grow you are going to want to be able to be able to control them. you dont want them to take over any of your other corals. as for sps.. do you know anything about keeping them? if not then maybe pick up a book or stay away from them, but to answer your question you generally keep them towards the top. i have t5s and i get growth at the middle and middle/ lower area. i cant help you out with the clam question, i know nothing about them.
