I noticed on my rocks for the past week a build up of a greenish film that had bubbles underneath it and a red hair like film. I was able to peel this film off pretty easily and as I was peeling the bubbles were releasing. Yesterday I noticed alot more and I couldnt figure out why this film was starting to cover alot of my rock.

I started inspecting my equipment, the filter was fine, all pumps were working, bulbs still have life in them and then I open my skimmer it wasnt making as many bubbles at it used to so I removed the skimmer, tubing and pump (remora with MJ 1200), pump was fine but the tubing was clogged so I cleaned everything out set it all back up and everything was running fine, in about an hour it was pulling a TON of crap out of the water.

My question is the green and red stuff on the rocks do I need to remove it or will it die off now that the skimmer is 100% again? Im sure pics would help Ill get some up tonight. ANy ideas till then?

Thank you
Patrick

What are the parameters of your water? SOunds like Cyano, green slime algae. DO a search for Cyano or Cyanobacteria or slime algae and ythere should be more than enough to help you out.

i'd gather that your clogged skimmer went unnoticed for to long and wasn't filtering the water. The build up of particles feed the algae growth. now that you have ur skimmer working, i'd remove whatever u can from the main tank and constatly check the skimmer to make sure its working.
