LR+DSB or just LR

I recently purchased a 125 gal reef setup that contains LR and no sand bed. There is about 1.5Lb/gal of LR included. I like the look of LS in reef aquariums. Would it be better to add a DSB to the setup or just add 1" of sand to the bottom? I don't want to end up with too much LS+LR that it will cause problems in the future, but if the filtration would be better with the DSB then maybe I should add a DSB now. The tank will be broken down and moved this weekend. Any suggestions?

This is a hotly debated topic right now. I've had no problems with DSBs personally, but a shallow sandbed has worked for me as well. Honestly, I don't think you'll have problems with either so long as the tank is well cared for. I guess the safest avenue is to install a refugium with a DSB so that you can disconnect and replace it without affecting the rest of your system.

I have a 3-4 inch sand bed. If I were to do it again it would be like 1-2 inches.
Like Len said, there is lots of discussion on this right now. Sadly, you will need to search and read and make your own decision.

Read about DSB in "Ask dr. Ron"... It's up to you what you want to set up. I personally will go for DSB although I don't know where I'll get the critters (detritivores)...
