How to kill Aiptasia

I have like 20 or so Aiptasia I tried joes juice i invested in the berghia nudibrachis <sea slugs> its been 1 weeks no sign of the 4 sea slugs and the Aiptasia are laughing what to do??????????

the berghia take a long time to reproduce in numbers enough to kill the aptasia.

I prefer kalking them when you can reach them.

The Berghia work, you just have to give them time. I had the same problem & JJ/ Kalking them were just temporary fixes. The Aiptasia seemed to be dying out in my tank before I added the nudes (I believe this was due to improved water quality). Once I put the Berghia into the mix they finished off the job. I bought 6 & received a bag full of hatched babies to compliment them. They have since killed the Aiptasia in about two weeks. The only way to see them in action is w/ a flashlight in the middle of the night. The work in groups & surround the base of the Aiptasia & munch away

One popped up on the rock of a coral I p/u. Got one of my syringes (good thing I'm a diabetic)hehe, the white vinegar out of my kitchen cabinet stabbed a few times. Shot it up with the vinegar been months now have seen any others...:teeth:

I boiled RO water back in the day and used a needle syringe (mom works in a doctors office) when I had one in an old tank. Never came back

peppermint shrimp are great! first minute in my tank it ate my aiptasia. i reccommend getting one or renting one from somebody and then giving it back if you dont want it after it eats your aiptasia

Not to mention they were really expensive..... ERRRRRRR What do you think?

when i first started i had a few as well as manjo i used purple up with needle injection and also used boiled ro water which worked as well. never came back. worked for me. my pepperments didnt touch it though

Pep shrimp will feast on your nudes & might even mess w/ your coral. Were the four you received large adults? Did you introduce directly into tank or did you give them a couple of days to build up their strength?
They work in groups so it is important that you put them next to each other in the tank. A fellow MR member split the order w/ me & hasn?t had any success in his tank either. Time is your best bet. If you cant stand looking at the Aiptasia separate your infected rocks to a holding tank & try the Pep shrimp (this way they will have no other food options but the Aiptasia). The boiling water, JJ/ Alk does work? shriveled my babies right up, but they came back several days? later even worse. I have a feeling it?s because I tried to suck them out of the tank immediately afterwards giving the AP a chance to spread there guck.
If you haven?t defeated the problem in about 1 month from now PM me & I will give you the piece of LR that I put my nudes in. I want to give it a month to make sure that any unseen AP is cleared away. Originally purchased 8 but my bag was filled w/ extremely small babies.

I got Peppermint Shrimps from a member here 2 of them and within a week all my atapsia was gone and they never bother my corals. I recommend the peppermint shrimps as they did a miracle for me, and they are inexpensive.

Peppermints worked for me maybe 5 years ago... about a year ago, w/no pepps left, aptasia started to come back, and I was too focused on writing my master's thesis and finishing school to pay attention (and tank was basically not visible... long story)

anyway, now i've got a terrible aptasia situation again and will be getting new peppermints, and am resigned to the fact that I'll probably always need them to keep my aptasia situation under control.

What's up Greg? Did you see what Kathy wrote? I think it was Kathy. She said you have to stab the aiptasia with the syringe. All we did was squirt some of Joe's Juice onto it NOT into it.

i put two peppermints in my tank ...after acclimation and i cant find them maybe the aptasia ate them?..or my other shrims ..fire sexy..and cleaners? i paid $20 for them...i glued some in the rock it seems to work but i have hundreds of them.........

I have peppermints in my tank to get rid of aiptasia. I've got tons of it growing in my fuge but none in my tank, so I assume the little guys are doing their work. I've never seen them bother any of my coral.

If you don't want to go with peppermints, I recommend following the instructions I laid out in that tutorial. If you can get a metal syringe, inject your chemical of choice (kalk, boiling water, HCl) directly into the aiptasia. They will shrivel up and die almost immediately.

My tank is full of aiptasia, but the berghia I introduced two weeks ago are slowly making progress. Each morning I find strings from the rocks where the aiptasia used to be. One morning I found an aiptasia swinging with the water current, and then broke loose. I netted it and tossed it.

The berghia are working. I never see them, but they are killing the aiptasia. Just wait. It will be worth it.
