I also have some short stemmed bluish xenia..the problem is shipping like Lawdawg said..it doesnt ship well at all...with water changes like everyone else said, you shouldnt need to supplement at all..and im not even sure about the B-ionic..I supplement with Kalkwasser only as I have high calcium demanding corals, ie sps and LPS...I just purchased a torch yesterday and it is doing fine...I also did a heavy acclimation period of adding in water from my tank over a couple hour period...that may be over kill but better safe then sorry...Mine also has 5 stalks (maybe 6) none have shown any signs of stress...I keep my Specific Gravity at 1.025 always..some people keep it higher, some lower so I figure 1.025 is a happy medium...Another rule of thumb is, if you dont have a test kit to measure for it dont add the supplement in...

I think the key really is to keep your tank's SG stable, whether it is at 025 or 026 or 024 and account for the difference between your tank's water and the LFS when you bring something new home.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

I did some more reading/research over the weekend and I stumbled onto something interesting. I didn't know this, but I guess there is a correlation between water temperature and SG. It makes more sense to me now, but I didn't realize that testing at a higher temperature (of 80) meant that the SG was going to be lower than testing at 77 degrees. My SG readings have been 1.024 at 80 degrees and it's 1.0265 at 77. Whoa! My eyes almost popped out of my head. 8O So, I guess that I'm cool after all and my SG is ok.

I've been hearing a lot about Kalkwasser lately, but they don't carry that at my LFS.

Here's another question for everyone...what kind of salt do you use?
Thanks!

It's doing it again... 8O some of the stalks did a Zooxanthellae release again last night. Then when I was feeding them I saw this think substance emerging from the tops of the stalks; I was able to see the slime because the food that I was feeding them is dark green and mixed with saltwater so, the slime was outlined in green. It was bizarre.

The last time I saw the sticky substance I lost two of the stalks. I also saw a few polyp strands on the floor of the tank before I left home. This guy hates my tank. The SG is up to 1.245 now and I just did a 10% water change last week. The other corals are doing fine except for my zoanthids....they're closed because my angel keeps nipping at them. I need to find another place in the tank for them.

I can't recall who it was, one of us had trouble with phosphate levels. Was it EmilyB? Her torch corals all lost their heads :? High phosphates can cause problems. Please test yours!
Chances are your LFS's tank conditions are less than optimal, also :?

All reef tanks have phosphates, but even readings below the lowest test kit mark can cause problems, this is why regular water changes with RO/DI water is important, especially if you have problems keeping euphyllia species.

Also, you might want to read up on brown jelly disease, a good place to search is wetwebmedia.com, but be prepared, it's an extensive website with a greal deal of information. You could get caught in there for days :)
