I just tested my 100 gallon and its PH is 8.8........Is this to high? I have no corals. I keep fish and a few inverts. Everything else tests out perfect.

I would question the test kit or the probe that you used first.

Secondly, I wouldn't worry about it at all. When my tank was about a year old it had cronically high PH for quite a while. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out why. Over time it came back down to the normal range that you would expect in a reef tank (8.0 - 8.3).

My animals looked great even when the PH was high. That is the reason why I decided to quit worring about it.

Thankyou very much...my fish and starfish seem to be doing very well. My 100 gallon tank has been up for about 2 years now. I love my clowns and foxface rabbit. Real cool fish. I stared at them for at least 2 hours tonight.

Are you dosing anything?

The danger with high PH is that it will cause Calcium carbonate to precipitate. This will in turn drop your Alkalinity to almost nothing and then your water will be subject to greater than normal PH swings (ironically).

No I am not dosing anything at all. I am beginning to question if my PH is really that high.

Did you use an old test kit Bang? Or maybe not follow the directions? I've done that and scared the Bajeebus out of myself with false readings.

The test kit seems fine. I used it to check my tap water and the water in my 50 gallon. I will do several small water changes till it comes down. Ughhhhh :!: I'm feeling very lazy.

Test the test kit buy testing the PH of your fresh water. I think RO water has a PH of around 5. If it tests differently than that, by very much anyways, then I would suspect the test is if faulty.

What brand of test kit do you have?
